Donate

Most of the plants, shrubs and bulbs in Wendell Park are bought thanks to donations from the public. To keep costs down, the Gardening Friends also grow and propagate lots of plants for use in the park. The council has provided support in the past, but there is no regular or guaranteed funding, so donations make a real and lasting difference to what we are able to plant in the park. Any donation, large or small, is very much appreciated.

QUICK FACTS

  • We are a voluntary community group, not a registered charity, so donations can’t be GiftAided
  • We spend roughly £700 a year on plants, shrubs and bulbs for the park
  • The council has occasionally supported us in the past with donations of plants, but there’s no regular commitment
  • If you want to donate, you can do so via bank transfer or PayPal
  • All donations go directly towards planting — we have no paid staff or overheads

WHAT YOUR DONATION FUNDS

Our new salvia border, planted under the rose hedge by the dog exercise area, is an example of what your support makes possible. We wanted to create a blaze of colour in summer, which would also attract pollinating insects and boost biodiversity in the park. Funded largely by donations at a cost of around £250, the border is still in its infancy but has already attracted lots of favourable attention. With more salvias being planted in autumn 2026, we think it will become a real feature of the park, which will buzz with bees from early summer into late autumn.

  • £20 could fund 20 dwarf cyclamen to bring colour to shady areas of the park
  • £25 could fund a new shrub for one of our borders
  • £100 could fund a significant contribution towards a new bed
  • £250 would fund an entire new border, like our Salvia border

WHERE DOES MY MONEY GO?

Mallow

Almost all donations go directly towards plants, shrubs, bulbs and materials for the park. We occasionally spend money on our website and on fundraising. We are entirely run by volunteers, so there are no salaries or overheads, so nearly every pound you give goes into the ground.

ARE YOU A REGISTERED CHARITY?

No – we are a voluntary community group, not a registered charity, so we’re unable to offer Gift Aid on donations.

CAN I DONATE IN ANY OTHER WAY?

Yes – if you’d like to support us withyour time instead of money, please see our Wishlist page or find out more about volunteering.
