The planting in Wendell Park is managed by the Wendell Park Gardening Friends, a voluntary community group. Are you interested in volunteering? No tools, experience or regular commitment needed – just energy and enthusiasm. Children are welcome to join in too, at your own discretion. It’s a great way to meet new people, get some fresh air and help in your community.

WHAT DO VOLUNTEERS DO?
Tasks vary from season to season and session to session, and might include planting, weeding, mulching, pruning, watering, or collecting leaves. Whatever the park needs on the day!
WHEN AND WHERE DO VOLUNTEERS MEET?
We meet at the Wendell Road entrance gate on the first Sunday of every month at 10am, for around 1–2 hours. Just drop by and join us — no previous experience needed.
DO I NEED TO BOOK IN ADVANCE?
Yes — please email us before you come along, so we know to expect you.
HOW DO I KEEP UP TO DATE WITH SESSIONS?
Our volunteer group is coordinated through a WhatsApp group, which is how members stay up to date with sessions and any changes. Once you’ve been in touch by email, we’ll invite you to join.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
All tools are provided. Gloves are useful but not essential — wear clothes you don’t mind getting a bit muddy!
WHAT HAPPENS IN BAD WEATHER?
Sessions are cancelled in bad weather. This will be shared via the WhatsApp group and our social media.
CAN CHILDREN VOLUNTEER?
Yes, children are welcome to join in — please use your own judgement on suitability for younger children.
CAN MY COMPANY OR GROUP VOLUNTEER TOGETHER?
Yes — we welcome corporate volunteers, and they’ve been an enormous help to the park in the past. Past corporate sessions have included cutting back ivy, restoring and painting railings, and clearing invasive shrubs and undergrowth.
We’re very flexible and happy to adjust to meet your needs, whether that’s group size, timings, or the type of activity involved.
